As a dieter trying to lose weight, do you eat or drink anything that contains aspartame?

When my client Shalene told me she had been trying to lose weight, she also said she had struggled everyday with her sugar addiction.  She found it very difficult to get through the day without sugar.

So as a dieter, she switched from sugar to aspartame.  As Shalene put it,  “After all, aspartame doesn’t have any calories and it has an okay taste.”

Unfortunately, most people do what Shalene did.  They start using artificial sweeteners like aspartame, thinking they are doing something good for their body.  Aspartame is an ingredient in Diet Coke, sugar-free candies, mints, and even desserts.  They aren’t aware of any aspartame danger.

Shalene knew sugar would mess up her energy levels and would lead to weight gain – or did she know?  Knowing or not, how do you stop?

Jane Bowen, M.D. says:  “The fact that aspartame fattens people is generally well known…. aspartame also poisons your metabolism so you cannot burn calories.”

Aspartame has managed to remain on the “legal” list of food additives since the 1980’s – but legal does not mean it’s safe, and the truth is, it’s not something you should ever eat.

There are over 92 documented side effects from aspartame!

Here are 12 of the more common effects:

  • impaired vision
  • tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in ears)
  • noise intolerance
  • epileptic seizures
  • migraines
  • memory loss
  • fatigue
  • depression
  • anxiety
  • insomnia
  • phobias
  • weight gain

In case you missed it, read that last one again: weight gain.

Food manufactures would lead you be believe that “sugar free” foods help you lose weight, not gain, and yet the reality is quite different.  Not only is there an aspartame danger to your health, it will cause you to gain weight.
