Stress is defined as "any stimulus, such as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium of an organism. 

Stress is the physical pressure, pull, or other force exerted on one thing by another; strain.

There are all types of body stress.  Stress can lead to all kinds of diseases if not dealt with.  It also increases weight gain by producing an increase in cortisol, causing fat to be stored around the abdomen.

Stress hormones are chemicals that are released into the blood stream during a stress response - whether that stress is real or imagined.  The stress can come from something physical, chemical, emotional,or psychological.
